GCC clinches Srinagar Police T20 Cricket championship title

Srinagar, Oct 24: Srinagar Police successfully concluded the T20 Cricket Tournament organised under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) 2025–26 at MPML Higher Secondary School Playground, Shamswari, Srinagar. The tournament, as per a statement, which commenced on October 17, witnessed enthusiastic participation from eight teams representing different areas of District Srinagar. The closing ceremony was presided over by Dr. G. V. Sundeep Chakravarthy, IPS, SSP Srinagar, in the presence of Senior police officers, participating teams and members of the local community. The tournament was organised as part of Srinagar Police's continued efforts to promote sports, encourage positive youth engagement and strengthen police-public relations through community-oriented initiatives. In an exciting final, Gojwari Cricket Club emerged victorious, defeating Krashbal Cricket Club to clinch the championship title. Both teams demonstrated commendable skill, discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. On the occasion, SSP Srinagar distributed trophies, medals, mementos and cash prizes among the winners, runners-up and outstanding performers. The winning team was awarded the championship trophy along with a cash prize, while the runners-up received a trophy. The Man of the Series was also felicitated with a trophy and cash prize for his outstanding performance. Addressing the gathering, SSP Srinagar congratulated the winning team and appreciated all participating players for their enthusiasm, discipline and sporting spirit. He emphasised that sports play a crucial role in shaping the character of young people by instilling discipline, teamwork, leadership and a sense of responsibility. He further encouraged youth to channel their energy and potential towards sports, education and other constructive pursuits, while staying away from drugs and other social evils. He reiterated that Srinagar Police remains committed to providing meaningful platforms for young talent and fostering a culture of healthy competition. SSP Srinagar also appreciated the support extended by the local community and highlighted the importance of such initiatives in building mutual trust, strengthening Police-public cooperation and bringing the police closer to the people.
